We revived our character-stripped 1904 farmhouse.

We found mid-century design books in the basement that were published in the 1950s. Looking back at old photos of this place-all I could find were old listing photos, and I’m sad to say that all the trim work was stripped, any apparent sign of the actual age of this home was gone. It wasn’t until we opened up walls that the true age shined. We found layers upon layers of wallpaper and newspaper used at insulation. Our goal was to add trim and character back to our home, while also making it suit our needs and have a modern touch. Enjoy looking through our mess as we renovated our forever home.

07.19.17 The Day we got the Keys to our Dream Home

Josh and I had already lived in our first home, a newer home in a development, for over 4 years, but were looking for something more. I had casually been scrolling through Zillow for a few months, just for “fun”. I came across this old farmhouse (circa 1904) on 5 acres for sale. Good price, good bones, but definitely needed work. We decided to contact our agent just to look. The first couple steps inside left us unimpressed. The house smelled old, the floors creaked, everything was outdated or needed to be redone. We took a walk around the property and found we would also be able to purchase the neighboring 8 acres, which included the original barn. We decided to go for it, we knew the potential of this place was great.
